Our goal is to get as many kids active in the Niagara region as possible. If we can get kids off screens & devices for 1 hour per week and get them moving, it can have a significant impact on their physical and mental health. Research also suggests that people who exercise regularly typically do better on cognitive tests compared to people who are sedentary. Getting kids fit and smarter!
We recognize that not all kids are drawn to sport and competition or have the motivation to take part in formal training programs that we traditionally offer, but we believe there's still a way to build fitness in a fun and engaging way.
Sessions start with a short warm-up followed by technical drills to get the kids moving with proper form. We incorporate relay races to get the kids activated before playing a 30 min game where we break into teams and engage in some friendly competition.
This 5 week program is ideal for elementary school aged kids from grades 1-8, younger athletes that aren't quite ready for formal run training or kids that just need to get off the couch and get moving!
If your child is interested in a more formal running program please check out our Track & Cross Country program.
No experience is required to take part in the bike or run sessions. All types of bikes are acceptable (mountain, hybrid, road, etc.). Bike Sessions take place in a large closed-to-traffic parking lot where we teach kids the technical skills required to safely ride on the roads. We work with them on cornering techniques, proper braking, pack riding and other useful skills to ride confidently.
Please note, open water swimming experience is required for the Thursday swims and wetsuits are recommended (at least for the month of June). Pool swimming is available for kids in our youth summer swim program.

With supportive coaches and great teammates you always feel comfortable and cared for at Edge. Whether it's a swim, bike or run I always feel proud of the work I put in. My performance in running also changed dramatically. I went from zero running to competing at OFSAA in three months. The training is challenging and planned out really well. You can truly find your edge.
